Our Art Project

Finally done with Christmas shopping! It is a zoo out there!! It took my son, Brian, and I 45 minutes to drive 1/2 mile down the road!!

As promised, here are some photos of my students with their Christmas cards. These are made with ribbons they cut to the measurements I gave them and then they created line plots to show how many ribbons of each length they had. The Christmas cards were the final phase. I think they came out so adorable!!

This is definitely a project I will do every year! The kids had sooo much fun with it and were really proud of the end result.

That's all for now. I hope you all have a really wonderful holiday! Enjoy your break!

Just 2 more days!!

Just two more days until a glorious 16 day winter break!! This week is going by soooo sssssllllllooooowwwwwlllllyyyyyyy...... I'm sure you all are feeling the same way!

My students are trying so hard to contain their excitement this week. They are doing a pretty good job. We have been busy learning about line plots and using number lines with intervals of 5 and 10 to solve word problems, reading passages about different holiday celebrations, and completing our science fair project. Tomorrow we are doing an art project as a culminating activity to our measurement and line plot lessons. The kids are excited about it. I will post pictures tomorrow. :D

How are you getting through these last few days before break?

Grand Opening!

Well, I did it! I opened my store on Teachers Pay Teachers!! There's a freebie so you can check out the quality of my work. It's a fun little activity to help students improve their fluency. Click on the picture below to check it out.

Reindeer Run - Fluency Practice
There are four other items in my store. If you download anything please remember to leave some feedback :)

Did any of you find any great deals during Black Friday? I didn't venture out except to go to my favorite Starbucks this afternoon. I'm not one for frenzied crowds so I tend to stay in during these sales. I did look through sale ads, though, and there were some incredible deals to be had.

I hope you all are taking full advantage of the long weekend and getting lots of rest and having fun!

Take care,
Melissa

What I am thankful for

Happy Thanksgiving! I love this time of year. It cold out so I get to spend the day in front of a toasty fire. I get to cook a huge feast for my family. My son and his girlfriend are coming for dinner! How is it that he grew up if I didn't get any older??? He's a terrific person and so is she - kind, compassionate, hard-working. My younger son is an awesome kid, too. He works really hard at school, is active in church, and very generous. He is always looking to help those less fortunate. My husband and I have been blessed. I am very thankful for that.

I put another item in my store today. My students need LOTS of practice with word problems. They struggle trying to determine how to best solve it. So...I created a set of word problems with a winter-theme. I plan to put these out as a center option during guided math. This is the new product:

I hope you all have a restful and family-filled holiday!

Venturing into the blogging world!

Hello blogging world! I am venturing into the blogging world....again! This time I intend to update my blog at least once a week! :) Keeping my fingers crossed.

I have a terrific group of students this year. That's not to say I don't have challenges, I do. But they are sweet and try to make the right choices. We are getting ready for our Thanksgiving break. I know they are going to be very chatty and bouncy since it's only a 2 day week so I have some fun things planned.

One thing we are doing is finishing up our "how-to" writing. We started with them telling me how to make a PBJ. As you can imagine, that didn't go well!! After a short class discussion and some guidance from me, they determined that they needed to do the activity as they are writing the directions. So I became "Queen for a Day" because I let them chew bubble gum in class!! I am using the "How to Blow a Bubble" packet by Simply Sweet Lessons. Click on her blog name to go to her blog or on the picture to go to her fabulous writing packet.

                                                              Bubble Blowing Blast!
I have also opened a store on Teacher's Notebook called Second Grade Fun. Right now there are only 3 items out there but I plan to add a lot more. I also plan to open a store on TPT in the near future. Once I figure out how to make a thumbnail of the cover page I will post them on my blog but in the meantime you can check them out here.

Well, that's all for now. Hopefully someone out there will read this. Otherwise I'm just talking to myself! :)
